Catoosa County Jail

Inmates

Interview with Katie and Angel

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates?
Katie: Not really we all stayed pretty much together. The guards were hard to deal with they played favorites.
Angel: On the most part no. But at the same time yes. Someone new would come in trying to prove themselves. Most problems came from the girls who never jailed before.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Katie: Stay to yourself. It was hard because they would never let us have time in the rec yard to get fresh air.
Angel: My best advice for avoiding it is to lay down and read a book. I was in 1 fight which i tried to avoid, but because I let her talk to me like that several times she kept doing it. Everybody needs to stay to their own business and quit thinking the guards are their friends and telling them evrything. And don't turn the tv up to loud. that always causes a fight. And if you do something to get in trouble and it makes evryone lose their visit, well that really causes fights.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate if you knew one?
Katie: No.
Angel: Yes. That's how i knew who to hang with, girls who jailed before like me.
